Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials conducted an interrogation at Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren's residence, focusing on a money laundering case related to an alleged land ownership change racket in the state. The team, consisting of three officers from Delhi, arrived at the official residence on Kanke Road in Ranchi for the inquiry.
ED officials arrived at the CM's residence around 1 pm for the scheduled interrogation, and before the session, ministers, and MLAs of the ruling party expressed support, including ministers Banna Gupta and Joba Manjhi.
The ED had previously sent him a letter issuing "last opportunity", setting the window for questioning between January 16 and January 20, after Soren had skipped seven previous summons from the agency. To this the CM agreed for an interrogation at his residence on 20th. The probe has already led to the arrest of 14 individuals, including Chhavi Ranjan, a 2011-batch IAS officer who held significant roles in the state Social Welfare Department and served as the deputy commissioner of Ranchi.
